Nope. Create a free account, go straight to the dashboard and begin with the Free plan with no payment information. With the Free plan, you get 1,000 API elements each month, allowing you to try out all four APIs before moving up.
At the end of each billing period, you pay for API elements processed. Rightly processed elements will be billed, not failed or errored ones. Stripe securely processes payments without monthly subscriptions, setup fees, or upfront payments.
But once you go above 500,000 items per month, you will be billed $1 for each additional 1,000 items used. If your project needs much larger volumes please contact us for custom pricing.
If a payment for your most recent billing period fails, your account will be automatically downgraded back to the Free plan. You will still get your dashboard access and 1,000 free elements per month. Once the outstanding payment is settled, you can upgrade to the Growth plan again any time.
Upon upgrading to the Growth plan, you get a $50 welcome bonus (25,000 free elements). It’s automatically applied to your usage. Any remaining balance will remain available until it’s used up completely.
Yes. You can upgrade at any time directly from your dashboard. Your account, API tokens, and settings remain the same. You simply unlock unlimited usage and usage-based (pay-as-you-go) pricing.
Elements are created for each query sent to the Distance Matrix API. One element corresponds to one origin-destination pair:
Number of origins times number of destinations = number of elements
For example, a request with 5 origins and 12 destinations creates 60 elements (5x12).
Your Dashboard gives you real-time visibility into your API usage, remaining bonus balance, estimated charges, billing history, and downloadable invoices so you know exactly how much you’ve used and what you’re going to pay.
Travel time estimates are calculated using statistical traffic data from public sources combined with our own routing algorithms. You can test the results using the Free plan before upgrading.
